Why do our eyes hurt when staring at our electronic devices?
Mobile phones, computer screens (LED), and other electronic devices that generate artificial life play a role in our health for they all release blue lights. We all know what blue lights are and how harmful it is to our health. But why do our eyes hurt when staring at a screen for a long period of time? How does it manage to hurt our eyes? What can we do?
The uneasiness most people experience after staring at screens is most likely one of the symptoms of digital eyes strain. Since we are on a pandemic, “WFH or Work from Home” setups are common these days especially to people who work in offices. We face our laptops most of the time, and sometimes even at an alarming rate. We tend to blink less than usual while staring at screens, which results in our eyes drying and eventually hurting. This is what digital eye strain feels like, and the discomfort we feel is a sign that we are experiencing the negative effects of it.
You may have heard of the 20-20-20 rule. You know, by looking at something 20ft far for 20 seconds every 20 minutes, we can easily give our eyes a favor. This rule may be one of the oldest tricks in the books, but this is still the best technique we all should practice to prevent digital eye strain.
